Unknown Provenance
2022 - 2023
A series of hand-modelled ceramic pieces. Terra sigillata on earthenware clay.
Unknown Provenance explores the act of imagining the unknown.
The works are designed so that upper section resembles archetypal jars, while the lower section dissolves into a dynamic surface, reminiscent of a cloth softly wrapping around the object and obscuring its overall form.
The series emerged from a study of ancient pottery shards, where the observer’s speculation about the original appearance, use, and ownership of fragmentary remains became a central source of inspiration.
The project in 2022 at the Museum of Classical Archaeology was supported by: the City of Aarhus, Danmarks Nationalbank’s Anniversary Foundation, Ellen og Knud Dalhoff Larsens Fond
The production of the exhibition at the YTF Gallery in Taipei in 2023 was supported by the Danish Art Foundation.
